Triple Link Chain Quilt Block

The triple link chain quilt block pattern is a four patch block attributed to Nancy Page.  It is a simple but eyecatching block which makes a pretty quilt.  I’ve made it here as a 16″ square.

Cutting requirements for the triple link chain quilt block

2.1/2″ squares:  eight red, four pink

2.7/8″ squares:  four each in pink and red, four each in white and red

4.1/2″ squares:  one red, four pink

4.7/8″ squares:  two each in pink and white

Make half square triangle units

Making the triple link chain quilt block

Make half square triangle units with both the 2.7/8″ squares and the 4.7/8″ squares.

Place two squares with right sides together and mark a line along the diagonal.  Sew a 1/4″ seam either side of the marked line and cut along the line.  This will produce two half square triangle units which are now either 2.1/2″ or 4.1/2″ squares.

Central area of the block

Central area of the block

The central area of the quilt block is made using the 4.1/2″ squares:  a red square in the middle with a pink square on each edge and pink/white half square triangles in the corners.

The frame around this central nine patch unit is made using the 2.1/2″ squares.  There’s a pink square in each corner with a pink/red half square triangle either side of it.  These are placed so that the square and pink triangles form a larger pink triangle across each corner.

In the middle of each edge there are two red squares and two red/white half square triangle units.  These are placed so that the two white triangles form a larger white triangle pointing away from the middle.

Sew the large squares of the central nine patch unit together first.

Sew the small squares together into a column on each side and a row above and below the central area.  Sew these rows to the top and bottom of the central area to make one column.  Sew the columns to each other to complete the triple link chain quilt block.

For a quilt idea I have just shown nine blocks together in three rows of three.  Rather a pretty quilt with diamonds and crosses forming where the blocks meet each other.

Thanks for visiting my blog.

I hope to see you again soon.
