My intention here is to show you some of the easy quilt block patterns and their variations with, as time allows, examples of those simple block patterns in a quilt.
Quilt blocks can be subdivided into three patch, four patch, five patch and so on, or the quilt block patterns can be categorised according to whether they are star or log cabin quilt blocks, states of the USA quilt blocks, traditional quilting blocks or maybe just fun quilt blocks that will look great in a quilt. They vary in size, some big blocks, some small.
I have only begun to categorise these so you may like to see star quilt block patterns which are on a separate page.
There is also a separate page for quilt blocks named for the states of America – many very pretty ones here.

Do you have a quiltblock pattern for the tunnel log cabin quilt? I just love it!!
Hi Marcia. I do have one tunnel log cabin quilt. You can find it on this link: https://ludlowquiltandsew.co.uk/2015/01/log-cabin-tunnels-quilt-pattern/. Hope you like it.
I am taking a Galaxy Star class next month and wanted to know what it was and how to sew it before going to my class. I found the star with instructions on your page and am ‘sew’ thankful! I won’t feel totally lost when I go to my class and I can now choose colors I need for this quilt. Thank you for your instructions! Very helpful! *hug*

Hi Judy. It always makes my day when someone finds just what they were looking for in my patterns. Thanks for letting me know and good luck with your class.
i looked the star up and its called a flying kite I know you did it and Im just looking for the pattern
Hi Ella. I definitely don’t have the flying kites quilt block but I’m perfectly happy to do the pattern for you. The one that you’re thinking of which gives a similar effect is the flying stars quilt block in the star sampler quilt. I’ll try and do the flying kites in the next week or so.
Saw this link on Pinterest and have to comment. A large number of your blocks are some of the same that I have liked, bookmarked, copied, etc. in the past and I love how you have combined them all in one location with a visual so that you don’t have to comb through a lot of information to even see what it is. Thanks for doing all the hard work and making it available.
Thanks, Bailey. I’m glad you find the quilt block patterns useful.
My family has quilted for generations. My great grandmother passed away at 98 and enjoyed quilting with her daughter and grand daughters. This site is something I will be able to share with my 84 year old grandmother tomorrow after a doctors appointment. She has displayed quilts at the Ohio State Fair and makes every new baby in our family a quilt. She still sits with her hoop and hand quilts them while watching tv in the evening. The blocks on here are beautiful, fun and bring back memories of quilts in our family. I have yet to make a quilt but now I am feeling quite inspired thanks to your hard work, inspiration and many any blocks to choose from. Nice to see you are also fromthe Buckeye State. HAPPY quilt block patterns!
Hi Karen. Thanks so much for your comments. You certainly have a long line of quilters before you. Your grandmother must get a lot of pleasure from her quilting – isn’t it lovely to have a hobby that she can continue all her life. I’m glad you like the quilt blocks – I prefer traditional quilts so tend to do them most often for quilt block patterns. Yes, it’s definitely time you began quilting! I’m afraid I’m not from the Buckeye State – I live in the UK, but quilting is followed worldwide.
Hi Rose…I am doing your Cathedral Window pattern…I am having trouble with the points…they seem to be bulky and so I trimmed them close to the stitching…I still have a bulk problem…what am I doing wrong? Thanks
Hi Patricia. Sorry you’re having problems. I can’t quite decide what you are doing. Is there any chance you could email me a photo to rose@ludlowquiltandsew.co.uk.
I first saw you on You Tube. Now ive found this site im really pleased. My biggest quandry is which one to choose! Its like a big box of chocolates all are tempting. I may have to return to my childhood and do “inky pinky pen & inky. Pat Birch
Hi Pat. Sounds like you’re really enjoying your quilting. Sometimes you can narrow the choices down by thinking what size you want to make, then what colours you want to use, how much fabric you’ve got – unless you want to buy new fabric each time (perish the thought!).

These blocks and tutorials are wonderful. I am so glad I found your site! I am a beginner but feel like I can create all the blocks on your page because your instructions are clear and simple. I think quilting may be a life long hobby for me 🙂
Thank you so much!
Thanks, Daphne. Be aware – quilting quickly becomes an obsession! Glad you find the tutorials helpful.
