I have seen two batik stained glass quilts, but ca only find one of your patterns. The one I want has more pieces in each block.
sorry, Jan. You must have seen it on a different website. I only have the one stained glass batik quilt pattern.
Is it possible to print off a pattern which is available on video please? I prefer to work from ‘black and white’ rather than a moving image!
Hi luv2soe. Yes, all the video descriptions link to the pattern page for that particular quilt. Towards the bottom of each pattern page you’ll see a small green box labelled ‘Print’. Alternatively you could highlight the pattern you want and then copy and paste it to a Word document for printing.
Just made my first quilt. The design was churn dash in green and white. The quilt is looking very puffy. Perhaps the wadding was.nt suitable. I like quilts that are flat. Can you advise me as to what wadding to use and is it best to use spray adhesive. Thank you. I come to Ludlow occasionally as I live in Kidderminster. Lesley.
Hi Lesley. I don’t live in Ludlow any more – I moved to Birmingham about a year ago – just the other side of Kidderminster! I think that it’s unlikely to have been the wadding that caused the puffiness. Waddings do vary in loft (thickness), but as it’s your first quilt I’d be inclined to suggest that it’s more likely to be the layering. You need to spend some time making sure that your quilt top is very flat and that you pin the layers together with lots of pins, smoothing from the middle all the time. You also need to smooth the top as you’re quilting – again from the centre outwards. Hope that helps.
Thank you. I did use maybe 200 pins. It looks ok. But it was so big for my first quilt. Might use spray adhesive next time. Smoothing all the time. Rail fence soon just got to finish binding.
Hi Lesley. You certainly did well to make a queen size quilt for your first quilt – you seem to have well and truly caught the quilting bug!
It’s been my dream for years. I bought a go big machine earlier this year because I found cutting out very tedious. Money well spent.
Hi Lesley. Nowadays there are so many things available to help us with our quilting – as well as all the gorgeous fabrics in the shops!
Just found your site. What a delight. I make quilts for Project Linus UK and they are going to get some new ideas! Thank you.
Hi Cathrine. Glad you like my quilt patterns. Isn’t Linus a wonderful organisation!
I love making hexagons! I use most of my scraps, create hexagons then use them for other projects… great to take along anywhere.
Hi Jennifer. Great idea. Something that I should think of doing.
Sorry if this info is noted already and I’ve missed it but when you quote fabric amounts how wide is the fabric please.
Hi Joyce. Good question. Most quilting fabric is 42″ wide, and that’s what I assume in my yardage. Hope that helps.
Hi there
I have just done the easy four patch quilt and it is lovely thank you for this site I will soon be doing another of yours
Sue
Thanks for your comments, Sue. I’m glad you find the quilt patterns helpful.
Hi Rose,
I am quite keen to make the Square in a Square quilt, I have quite a large piece of the darker fabric but only a piece of the lighter measuring 68″ in length by 44″ in width. Am I correct in assuming this would allow me to make the quilt you demonstrate, i.e including the border?
As I would like to enlarge the quilt to 6ft x 6ft, how much fabric would I require in the lighter colour?
Your advice would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks.
June.
Hi June. I am so sorry that this reply has taken me so long. I wanted to be able to sit down and think about this and haven’t managed that till now. First of all, yes the light fabric you have would certainly be enough for the quilt. If you wanted to increase the size of the quilt, you would really need to make six rows of six blocks (rather than the four by four that I have used), so you would need to use an additional twenty blocks. I would think that you need to buy an additional 50″ or so of the light fabric in order to have enough. I hope that helps. Best wishes, Rose
Hi Rose thank you so much for all your trouble I shall really look forward to receiving your Newsletter. I have been following your site but it will be great to have the Newsletter delivered to my in box.
Kind regards Ursula
Sorry it took so long!
Hi Rose, Thank you for your trouble I have added your e-mail to my contacts and look forward to hearing from you tomorrow.
Hi Ursula. My apologies for the length of time this has taken, but I have now managed to subscribe you. I have emailed you, but thought that I had better contact you here as well just to be sure. Best wishes, Rose
Hi Thank you for your e-mail unfortunately I have checked my junk and spam mail and there is no e-mail to confirm link. I can’t think where else to look.
Ursula
Hi Ursula. The system isn’t allowing me to cancel your subscription yet. By tomorrow I should be able to cancel it and then I’ll try and find a way to subscribe you manually. Could you add rose@ludlowquiltandsew.co.uk to your contacts list please and I’ll let you know tomorrow when I’ve added you to the list so that you can look out for the confirmation. I’m so sorry it hasn’t been a straightforward exercise for you.
I have tried several times to join your weekly newsletter but I never receive the link to confirm. Please help, thank you. Ursula
Hi Ursula. I’ve checked the system and you are right – it says it’s awaiting confirmation. All I can think is that the confirmation email must be going into your junk folder. Would you mind checking there for the email? The trouble is that I cannot add you to the list manually because you will still need to confirm. It’s all to do with anti-spam guidelines. Thanks for your interest.
Dear Rose
I love your website, do you have a pattern for a quilted cover for a
Mixmaster?
Hi Beverley. I don’t have a mixmaster cover pattern, but you may be able to adapt the patchwork toaster cover pattern: https://ludlowquiltandsew.co.uk/free-quilt-and-sew-patterns/free-patterns-quilt-sew/patchwork-toaster-cover/
I am making a crazy quilt as I had loads of odd pieces of material. This is first one and taking so much energy trying to work everything out. I could find work for a guardian angel. It started out as a cushion cover and is now king size.
Used to live near Ludlow and often went there shopping. Nice place.
Hi Jenny. That’s quite a change in size – from a cushion cover to a king size quilt! Well done. You must be really proud of it.
This is the only place I can fine to respond to your email asking me to confirm my email address. rdjoss@yahoo.com
I am so sorry you’ve had problems confirming. I have checked and you are definitely on the list now. Thanks for your interest.
Hi Rose, have watched some of your tutorials on u tube and found your teaching easy, Thanks. Are you in Port Ludlow? Used to go there as a kid.
Thanks also for the site
Thanks, Cheryl. Glad the videos help. I live in Ludlow in the UK. rose

Thanks, Sandra. It’s such a pity when work gets in the way of quilting, isn’t it! I’m glad you like the website. rose
