FESTIVAL OF QUILTS 2013

The Festival of Quilts is the premier quilting exhibition in Europe, attracting entries from all over the world.  There must have been over 2,000 quilts on display, split into various categories.  The one above was the winner of the traditional quilts category.  In addition to the general displays, there are also small galleries of different shows from around the world – I was particularly interested in the Prague Patchwork Meeting display, having been to Prague last year with my daughter, but there were many other displays such as the European Quilt Triennial.  Some galleries had displays of the work of individuals such as Lynne Edwards and Kaffe Fassett.  The trouble is that there were too many displays to mention them all individually, but that doesn’t mean that I didn’t find them all entrancing.

Another section of the Festival of Quilts that always fascinates me is devoted to quilted products.  This coracle (small boat) was exquisitely quilted – what an imaginative project!

I managed not to buy too much from the rows and rows of traders, but it is really impressive to see so many traders in one place and there are usually some new traders in amongst the familiar faces.

The Festival of Quilts is open till Sunday 11th August at the NEC in Birmingham, and if you can make it there it really is a wonderful day out.
