Some blocks are so clean and fresh looking that I feel I just have to make them. This quilt block would make a pretty, uncluttered quilt. In different colours I can see it as a quilt for a man. I’ve made it here as a 12″ block using 2″ finished size squares.
white fabric: four 4.1/2″ by 2.1/2″ rectangles, four 2.1/2″ squares, eight 2.7/8″ squares
brown fabric: four 2.7/8″ squares
blue fabric: one 4.1/2″ square, four 2.7/8″ squares, four 2.1/2″ squares
Making the Mrs Bryans choice quilt block
You will need eight half square triangles in brown/white and in blue/white. Place two 2.7/8″ squares with right sides together and mark a line along the diagonal. Sew a 1/4″ seam either side of the marked line and cut along the line to produce two half square triangles.
The Mrs Bryans choice quilt block is made using six rows of six squares each. Lay these out with the white rectangles in each corner and the 4.1/2″ blue square in the middle. The rest of the patches then form first a brown square and then a blue square around the middle.
Sew the squares together across each row and then sew the rows together. For the third and fourth rows, sew the half square triangles on each side together in fours so that they can be sewn to the sides of the large square. That completes the Mrs Bryans choice quilt bloc,
