American States Quilt Block Patterns

American states quilt block patterns are common enough to warrant a page of their own.  There seems to be a huge number of quilt blocks which are named after the states of the USA or have the name of one of the states somewhere in the quilt block name.  At one time I thought that I would try to show you a quilt block tutorial for each of the states, but then I realised that this would be too restricting – there are many states which are mentioned in several very different blocks.  So my plan now is basically just to collect together these American quilt blocks on one page.  I will attempt some form of alphabetical listing to make it more easy to find a particular block from amongst the American states quilt block patterns.

  1. Please inform me how to print off these patterns that you show. I find no place on your site that says print. I also do not know how to download on a Kindle as I do not have one. How do I download onto a thumbdrive?

Thanks so much and you do have wonderful patterns, especially for a novice at machine quilting.

    • Hi Kathy. Towards the bottom of every page you should see a small green box that says something like ‘print friendly’. If you click on that, you should be able to save or print or create pdf. I have to add that this gives you the entire page including comments. If you want to just have the pattern itself it’s often easier just to highlight the pattern, then copy and paste onto a word document.
With regard to the kindle, I’m not sure what a thumbdrive is. If you buy my book on kindle (it’s free this weekend so won’t actually cost anything) then Amazon should pick up on the fact that you haven’t got a kindle and offer to download the kindle software to your computer – but as I say I don’t know if that also applies to thumbdrives because I don’t know what they are. Thanks for your interest. Rose

  2. I love your patterns and your instructions are always easy to follow

  3. Catherine Irving says:

Have just found your books and web site and love your work you explain everything so well can’t wait to try some of these blocks

  4. I’ve just found your website, and find your instructions very easy to follow. I’m new to quilting, and find your patterns very inspiring – I want to make them all! However, I was just wondering, is there a UK version of the US state block i.e. one based on UK counties for example?

    • Hi Jane. Welcome to the quilting world – we all wish that we could make more quilts than we actually manage to! I haven’t come across any blocks of UK counties. There is a block which has Ludlow as one of its names, but you’ve got me thinking now – it would be a great series of blocks for me to design and work on.

  5. Does Michigan have a block? Never see one, just wondering

    • Hi Linda. There are several quilt blocks that include Michigan in their name but I’m not sure if Michigan has an official state quilt block. I’ll try and do a tutorial for one of the Michigan blocks some time soon.

  6. Wow, that would be fantastic. Thank you Rose
